We take the needs of each customer into account. That is why our wide range of products also includes the s.81 (designed for liquids) and s.82 (designed for gases), so-called side drain valves, which help to drain fluid that is no longer needed or is in excess.
More specifically, for the North America market, the s.82 has ANSI B.1.20.1 FF NPT threads with ¼” outlet, and has sizes from 1/2” to 2”. This type of ball valve is suitable for application in the oil and gas industry, domestic appliances, heating and air conditioning. On the other hand, the s.81 is distinguished by ISO 228 FF threads with 1/4″ ISO 228 outlets on both sides and sizes from ½” to 2”. It is suitable for application in air conditioning systems, waste water industry, food and beverage sector, pressure control systems and safety systems.
The ball valve traditionally has two ports through which the fluid passes; side drain valves also have an additional path to drain liquids, gases and compressed air when the valve is closed.More precisely, the s.81 has a side drain on each side, while the s.82 has a side drain on one side only.
This function is particularly useful, for example, for maintenance work. If a pipe breaks, there is no need to dismantle the whole house in order to repair it, but just drain the water at the point where you need to work, without any particularly demanding disassembly work.
The fluid drain function is also very important to protect the valve in severe weather conditions; for example, in the event of temperatures that could freeze the water inside the valve. In fact, as it changes from the liquid to solid state (ice), the fluid volume increases and presses against the valve walls, which could cause the metal part to break. The drain, however, allows the water to escape without damaging the system.
Another important function offered by this type of valve is the ability to connect various measuring instruments – such as pressure gauges to measure pressure or thermometers to monitor temperature – important functions to check that the system is working under optimal conditions and to monitor the performance of the installation.
As for all RuB ball valves, handles or T-handles are also available in a variety of colours, making it easier to identify the different fluids (water, compressed air, lubricant, etc.) with which the valve is used.
Choosing RuB ball valves is therefore not only about getting the best on the market, but also about making your life easier.
