In our company’s green journey, we have taken another tangible step: after introducing the new easy-opening boxes in the previous months, which are both practical and environmentally friendly, we have replaced the plastic dividers in the boxes with cardboard ones. In this way, we aim not only to eliminate all plastic by the end of 2024 but also to reduce the total weight of the packaging in relation to the weight of the shipped product.
We chose paper because it is a fully recyclable material; in our specific case, it is also of excellent quality and clean, thus ensuring a high recycling yield.
This initiative is part of a broader framework of the company’s sustainability policies: on average, we purchase 100,000 kg of packaging material made of various types of paper and cardboard each year, and until 2022, we used to purchase 5,000 kg of plastic tapes and trays.
The benefits of this replacement are also evident for our customers, who now, during disposal, only need to ensure proper sorting as recommended by the local authorities, without having to physically separate it from other materials.
The transition from plastic to paper was not without its challenges, as plastic trays are very practical for us during packaging. For two main reasons: not only do they allow us to place each piece in a way that prevents dents during transport, but they also enable us to immediately spot any discrepancies in quantity. Therefore, to avoid bumps, we had to add honeycomb cardboard dividers, placing the products rationally in the boxes during handling and transport. As for the second point, we have moved all packaging to the automatic packaging system, which has an in-line weight control, ensuring the correct quantity is packed.
Small but significant steps that allow us to become increasingly sustainable: we continue to improve every day in the name of the environment.
