Environmental sustainability is undoubtedly one of the most important issues of this century, increasingly at the center of civil and political debate. This topic is being brought even more to everyone’s attention this month, thanks to two commemorative days established by the UN: World Environment Day on June 5th, and World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought on June 17th.
While both celebrations highlight the importance of protecting natural resources, World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought focuses on the sustainable use of water and against its waste. The underlying theme is that every person and every organization must do its part to achieve environmental sustainability.
As a manufacturer of ball valves for fluid control systems, RuB Inc. actively contributes to water conservation through the performance and reliability of its product.
Precision engineering for water saving
Each valve undergoes a double leak test at assembly, plus a 24-72 hour test with compressed air at 5 bar, which is unique in the sector. We apply the EN331 standard across our full range, including valves for plumbing and drinking water, to ensure the highest sealing integrity.
By using such stringent criteria, RuB valves support efficient, leak-free systems in more than 57 countries worldwide covering from the coldest to the hottest climates.
Smart water management in manufacturing
To reduce the environmental impact of our processes, we took an important step in late 2023 by drawing water from wells instead of using mains drinking water for technical uses. This change became fully consolidated in 2024, when 100% of water used in technical applications was switched to this new source and enabling a 33% reduction of drinking water consumption.
Moreover, 100% of cooling and process water is recovered and reused within the production cycle. On the rare occasions when internal reuse is not possible, water is disposed of safely and only after thorough analysis, which consistently confirms the absence of hazardous substances.
Fighting desertification beyond our core business
In 2022, our Italian HQ partnered with Treedom® to launch a reforestation project in Kenya, aimed at supporting biodiversity, CO2 absorption, and local farmers.
The initiative involves planting 200 new trees each year through 2026, and sharing them with customers, employees and partners — who can follow the growth of the forest over time directly through Treedom® platform.
